Last week, Julian Nolan joined industry leaders at the 36th session of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Standing Committee on the Law of Patents to discuss the evolving intersection between patents and AI. The session explored how AI is transforming R&D processes across various industries.

During the event, Julian introduced our pioneering AI-assisted approach to invention, demonstrating real-world examples of how AI enhances the human ability to invent. With AI already driving efficiency and breakthroughs in fields such as physical sciences and chemistry, it’s clear that AI-assisted invention is no longer a future possibility – it’s happening now.

Key takeaways from the session included the growing role of AI in innovation and the importance of recent USPTO guidelines, which provide a good foundation for global patent offices to adapt to the shift while ensuring that human ingenuity remains a critical element in the process.
